“The Flash” has surged ahead at the box office, amassing a staggering $9.7 million
In an exhilarating sprint, “The Flash” has surged ahead at the box office, amassing a staggering $9.7 million during its previews.
The highly anticipated film by Warner Bros., featuring Ezra Miller as the lightning-fast hero from DC Comics, and masterfully directed by Andy Muschietti of “It” fame, has faced numerous obstacles on its journey to the silver screen. Nevertheless, it is now poised to make its grand debut this weekend. Industry projections estimate that “The Flash” will achieve a remarkable opening weekend box office collection of approximately $70 million, with optimistic forecasts reaching as high as $85 million, and more conservative estimates hovering around $68 million.
These figures align closely with the performance of previous offerings from DC Studios, such as last year’s “Black Adam” and 2018’s “Aquaman,” both of which debuted with $67 million in earnings. However, Warner Bros. undoubtedly hopes that “The Flash” will follow in the footsteps of his “Justice League” comrades rather than Dwayne Johnson’s antihero. While “Black Adam” fell short with $168 million in domestic receipts and less than $400 million worldwide, Jason Momoa’s “Aquaman” triumphantly rode the waves to $335 million in North America and a staggering $1.14 billion globally. It goes without saying that “The Flash” is poised for a far more successful performance than March’s “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” which opened with a modest $30 million and concluded its domestic run with a mere $57 million. As for the Thursday previews, “Black Adam” amassed $7.6 million, “Aquaman” raced to $9 million, and “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” accumulated $3.4 million.
Alongside Ezra Miller’s Scarlet Speedster, “The Flash” brings back the iconic portrayals of Batman by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton. When Barry Allen, also known as the Flash, embarks on a daring journey to an alternate dimension to avert the tragic fate of his mother, he finds himself teaming up with an alternate version of himself—Batman, played by Michael Keaton—and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, as they unite to confront the formidable General Zod, portrayed by Michael Shannon, and save the multiverse from imminent destruction.
In the realm of other releases this weekend, Pixar’s enchanting creation “Elemental,” which delves into the profound connection between two elemental beings—water and fire—is expected to generate $35 million in ticket sales. Although it may be considered one of Pixar’s more modest openings, trailing behind the likes of “The Good Dinosaur” in 2015 and “Onward” in 2020, both of which debuted with $39 million, “Elemental” has already ignited curiosity by securing $2.4 million in previews. Furthermore, Lionsgate’s darkly satirical horror film “The Blackening” is anticipated to make a chilling entrance with an opening weekend collection of $7.5 million, having accrued $900,000 from its previews.
Embracing the enthralling narrative of “The Flash” and the captivating allure of other weekend releases, cinemagoers are poised to embark on a journey of cinematic delight, where heroes and elemental forces collide, and the unexpected awaits at every turn.
